Ce coffret de 4 CD regroupe l'intégralité des enregistrements de Pharoah Sanders entre 1963-1964 (correspondant à son arrivé à New York en 1962) et précédant sa participation au groupe de Coltrane à partir de 1965. Le contenu : deux sessions avec Don Cherry et Paul Bley, l'album ESP (premier disque officiel sous son nom), les concerts intégraux au Judson Hall les 30 et 31 décembre 1964 avec Sun Ra et des interviews de Don Cherry, Paul Bley, Sun Ra, Bernard Stollman (fondateur du label ESP) et Pharoah Sanders lui-même. Le tout est réorganisé et remonté par le producteur Michael D. Anderson. Beaucoup de matière inédite qui font de ce coffret un document d'exception. A l'heure de la publication de ce coffret (2012) Pharoah Sanders est l'un des derniers musicien vivant de cette époque du free-jazz naissant.(BB)
