David Newman gives his own nod to Bernard Herrmann, offers orchestral score by turns suspenseful, exciting. Newman anchors with fully drawn main theme but heart of score is small repeating motif, given Herrmann-ish treatment for low strings, woodwinds. Some splendid French horn lines also get attention. Brief score develops several ideas, culminates in wild car chase music, finally winds down with warm, nostalgic glow.
