"Picking this beautiful debut up at the recent Terrastock was probably one of my smartest ideas of the trip (while spending 100 bucks every night on beer at the AS220 was probably my least "smartest" idea of the trip). Auto Da Fe is a California duo made up of vocalist/instrumentalist Tara Tavi (of Amps for Christ, Soddamn Inssein, and Blue Silk Sutures reputation) and multi-instrumentalist Martin Kvisvic. I use instrumentalist because this album is brimming with things like balalaika, boulzouki, guzheng, tambur and even some more common instruments like bass, drum and sampling. In fact, The Spectre plays like a strange mix of Eastern Hemisphere Sublime Frequency comps meeting with Dead Can Dance Euro-mysticism and even a dash of Olympia grrl-core."
