Laurence Sterne est l'un des grands auteurs anglais du XVIIIème siècle. Ses écrits ont excercé sur Diderot une influence notable. La publication, en 1759, des deux premiers volumes de "La Vie et les opinions de Tristam Shandy, gentleman" le rendit célèbre. La finesse d'humour masque l'étrange mélange de pudeur et d'obscénité. L'oeuvre deviendra le signe même de la littérature "subjective". "Tristam Shandy" est lu, ici, par John Moffatt, dans sa version originale, l'anglais. JMV.
