Huit années après la sortie de son premier album INTRODUCING ROBIN McKELLE en 2006 [UM3373], HEART OF MEMPHIS confirme et renforce la trajectoire vers des répertoires plus soul, virage inauguré depuis l'album MESS AROUND [UM3375] en 2010. C'est à Memphis, capitale musicale abritant les légendaires labels Stax et Sun Records que McKelle à realisé cet album dans la tradition de la soul des années 60/70 y ajoutant toutefois une touche actuelle.
