En décembre 1954 quand elle enregistre son premier album à son nom, Helen Merrill n'a alors que 21 ans. Entièrement orchestré et arrangé par Quincy Jones l'album HELEN MERRILL inaugure une longue carrière. Sa voix douce et suave, entre June Christy et Sarah Vaughan, est à l'aise sur tous les tempos. Dès ses débuts elle fait preuve d'une grande maturité. Elle est une des grande dame de l'histoire du jazz vocal.(BB)
