"Hanshan creates a unique style of freely improvised music based on jazz and Asian sources. They are named after Han Shan, a chinese poet and philosopher of the Tang Dynasty whose Zen tranquillity and exuberant attitudes towards life is reflected in their art. The members play a variety of instruments. Sound colour as well as rhythmic diversity from staples of their expressive palette. They have been working together since 1988 and have performed in the United States as well as in Asia.". "Hanshan's music for "Lotus: Elements" was inspired by the Zen Dance art of Dr. Sun Ock Lee. One of Korea's foremost dancer-choreographers, she had been resident in the United States since 1969 and her works have attached much international attention.".
