Injustement méconnue dans la sphère francophone, la poétesse américaine Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) a inspiré l'oeuvre de nombre de compositeurs. La langue de Dickinson est déjà musicale en elle-même avec ses vers courts, sa ponctuation non conventionnelle et le rythme qu'elle contient. La soprano Lisa Delan accompagnée par l'Orchestre Philharmonique de Marseille dirigé par Lawrence Foster a découvert les 8 Poèmes d'Emily Dickinson d'Aaron Copland lors de ses études. Pour leur tenir compagnie, elle a choisi les 5 mélodies Newer Every Day de Jake Heggie écrits en 2014 et dont le style se marie particulièrement bien avec la musique de Copland. Le récital se termine par des extraits de Poems of Emily Dickinson de Michael Tilson-Thomas dont on peut admirer le travail d'orchestrateur.
