La mezzo-soprano américaine Joyce DiDonato rassemble ici un beau choix d'arias tirés d'opéras de l'époque baroque pour mettre en scène les contraires: guerre et paix. Son ambition : nous permettre de répondre à la question : « Au milieu du chaos, comment trouver la paix ? » La musique serait-il un moyen de rétablir l'harmonie ? Elle adoucit les moeurs nous dit-on.
En compagnie d' Il Pomo d'Oro sous la direction de Maxim Emelyanychev, DiDonato interprète 15 arias de Purcell, Handel, Leo, Jommelli et Monteverdi symbolisant soit la paix, soit la guerre. Discours éloquent soutenu par une technique vocale sans faille nourrie par une magnifique musicalité. Pari admirablement tenu. Il ne reste plus qu'à espérer que les belligérants soient sensibles à la musique.
