José Miguel Moreno et Eligio Quinteiro ont décidé d'interpréter les oeuvres pour luth de Dowland en y ajoutant un accompagnement réalisé avec le théorbe ou la gittern (guitare renaissance). Aucun document ne prouve qu'on interprétait cette musique avec ces instruments... La décision de jouer les oeuvres de Dowland ainsi, se base sur une série de considérations. Le théorbe créé quelques années auparavant à Florence, fit son entrée en Angleterre vers 1605*
