Alors qu'une nouvelle génération [Groupe du Lundi et leur chef K.B. Blomdahl] rejeta dès les années 50 toute rérérence au folklore en réaction contre le romantisme national [Alfven, Atterberg], Karin Rehnqvist renoue avec le folklore, mais de manière très orignale et résolument neuve. Cette tendance va de pair avec une vision féministe qui, selon ce qu'elle croit, transparaît dans ses compositions.
