Miklos Rozsa est né à Budapest en 1907. Après des études musicales au Conservatoire de Leipzig, il partit en 1931 tenter sa chance à Paris. Devant le peu de succès que rencontrèrent ses premières compositions, il se mit à écrire de la musique de film sur le conseil d'Arthur Honegger. Sa carrière prendra un tournant inattendu à la veille de la deuxième guerre mondiale : il venait d'écrire la musique du voleur de Bagdad qui ne pouvait plus être monté en Europe, aussi toute la production fut transférée à Los Angeles; l'opportunité pour Miklos Rozsa d'entrer à Hollywood. Il y composera la musique de 95 films parmi lesquels certains des plus grands chefs-d'oeuvre cinématographiques. [cfr livret]
