Ce disque contient une séquence video montrant Carolina Eyck parlant du theremin et du concerto de Kalevi Aho.
Considéré comme un des plus importants compositeurs de musique orchestrale actuel, Kalevi Aho est l'auteur de 15 symphonies ainsi que de 20 concertos. Il considère d'ailleurs sa série de concertos pour chacun des instruments de l'orchestre romantique comme un de ses projets les plus ambitieux. Un des derniers nés de cette série est le Concerto pour cor et orchestra de chambre compose pour la corniste finlandaise Annu Salminen qu'on peut entendre sur cet enregistrement. Ce concerto diffère des autres par l'introduction par le compositeur d'un élément rituel. En effet, la première intervention du cor a lieu hors scène. Le soliste fait son entrée et traverse la scène de gauche à droite avant de quitter celle-ci avant la fin. Dans le Concerto pour theremin, il y a aussi un élément théâtral tenant à la nature de l'instrument lui-même. Inventé en 1920, le theremin est le tout premier instrument électronique, il se compose de deux antennes qui
- répondent aux mouvements de mains de l'interprète. L'instrument n'est donc pas touché. Fasciné par celui-ci, Aho a conçu un concerto en 8 mouvements sans interruption et base sur les divisions traditionnelles de l'année chez les Sami, un people de la Laponie. Carolina Eyck tire de son theremin des effets capables de décrire les différents événements de l'année comme la fonte des glaces ou le soleil de minuit.
