"The New Frontier is a superhero film that details the formation of the Justice League and includes such super luminaries as Superman, Batman, and many more. It comes from the graphic novel by Darwyn Cook and takes place in the 1950s and 60s. It's quite a good animated film and you should check it out if you're a fan of the supers or the graphic novel. Composer Kevin Manthei was tasked with the super task of scoring the film. Since this film takes place in past he gets to inject a bit of the music of the time into his compositions. The 'Main Titles' have a super feel to them that harkens back to Elfman's work on Batman. The Martian Manhunter character disguises himself as a private eye reminiscent of Sam Spade so Manthei also gets to write some music that would feel at home in a film noir. Just when you thought that Manthei has had enough fun he gets to compose the bigaction finale and lets it all hang out, including some discordant music, choirs,and percussion. It's as much fun listening to it as Manthei must've had composing it. Some nice work here and fans of the animated film will definitely want it in their soundtrack collection."
