"Maurice Jarre's great soundtrack for this legendary film by Luchino Visconti -- music as driving and dramatic as the story itself! There's a bit less sentimentality here than some of Jarre's other work of the 60s -- and a bit less of an epic sensibility too -- as many of the tunes have a stark, personal feel -- very up-close, even when the orchestrations are somewhat large, and focused on some key themes that spin out with simple, almost stepping sorts of rhythms. Some moments are quite brooding and tense -- and this CD features 22 titles, including "Ossessione", "La Caduta Degli Dei", "Il Ritorno Di Herbert", "L'Incesto", "L'Attesa Di Sofia", "Tema Di Martin", "La Morte Di Joachim", and "Ninna Nanna Per Lisa"."
