A WARRIOR ON THE BATTLEFIELD (A CAPELLA: 20'S-40'S)
RELIGIOUS MUSIC
- Ref. K 4817
- ROUNDER RECORDS, 1997. Enregistrement 1927-1942.
"Long before the days of doo-wop, black quartet singing was a feature of African-American life throughout the South, growing out of the schoolyard, the workplace and specially the church. This collection explores a capella quartet singing in the years between the wars, when quartet style was evolving from nineteenth century hymnbook and barbershop harmonies to the sophisticated creations of the Golden Gate and Silver Leaf Quartets."
