BLACK ANGEL BLUES: ROBERT NIGHTHAWK / FOREST CITY JOE
CITY/URBAN BLUES
- Ref. K 1620
- CHESS, 1991. Enregistrement 1948-1964.
"In the thirties and forties, the Black audience's taste had been for much more urbane music, small group blues with most of the rough edges smoothed away, and this sound did not disappear without trace. The two artists on this collection give some indication of what happened to it; although both fit the generalisations usually made about the 'downhome revolution' in the blues business at the time, these recordings also bear witness to the strong influence and persistence of what was once dubbed 'the Bluebird beat' ".
