Lyrics Born, aka Asia Born, aka Tom Shimura, né à Tokyo en 1972 et élevé à Berkeley en Californie, est un des membres fondateurs du label Solesides au début des années 90, avec Chief Xcel et the Gift Of Gab de Blackalicious, bientôt rejoints par le jeune Josh Davis (Dj Shadow) et Lateef "the Truth Speaker". Avec le succès du double EP Entropy / Send them de Shadow et Asia Born, Solesides a insufflé aux rappeurs californiens l'esprit de petite entreprise, qui a permis l'émergence de labels talentueux comme Hiero Imperium ou Stones Throw.
