"Jalal was one of the four founding members of The Last Poets, who first hit most peoples consciousness when their song "Wake up Niggers" was used as part of the soundtrack of the film "Performance". The Last Poets were formed in Harlem in 1968 to try and make some sense out of the legacy of slavery inherited from America and were faced with enormous task of defining and re-defining the true meaning of their existence, in America, in the electronic age."...
