Big MILLER

- SOUTHLAND RECORDS, 1992.
Live. "His singing is an amalgam of styles picked up and distilled over a long career. They include Big Joe Turner, where he got his Kansas City shout style, T-Bone Walker where he picked up the silky delivery and use of jazz chords in the blues form, from Billy Eckstine he learned to 'sing pretty', the straight-ahead approach of Jimmy Rushing and Jimmy Witherspoon was thrown into the Miller mix and from Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Billie Holiday he took the intensity." He died on June 9, 1992. Born in Sioux City, Iowa on December 18, 1922.
