Arthur "Duke" Reid, fut dj dans l'un des sound-systems les plus populaires des années 50 appelé " Trojan ". Il fut ensuite producteur et patron des labels " Treasure Isle " et " Trojan Records " qui éditèrent des disques de ska et de rocksteady. Il fit constamment des efforts pour être en studio le plus souvent possible, au contraire de ses concurrents, et était connu pour son perfectionnisme et son utilisation régulière d'arrangements symphoniques. De plus, ses enregistrements étaient considérablement plus longs que ceux de ses rivaux. Ils atteignaient souvent les quatre minutes alors que la plupart des autres ne dépassaient que rarement les 2 minutes. . Il fut plus tard encore actif au début des années 1970, en travaillant avec le toaster U-Roy puis décéda d'un cancer début 1975. Samuel Mussen
