Lucille BOGAN (BESSIE JACKSON)
- Ref. KB5303
- DOCUMENT RECORDS COMPACT (AUT), 1923-1930.
Complete recorded works in chronological order. "In the blues of the pre-war era there existed a group of women singers whose fell somewhere between the rural sounds of, say, Bertha Lee and those of the so called 'classic' singers. These were tough ladies, often prostitutes, who understood, empirically, the world in which they moved and who brought its values and outlook in their songs. Foremost among this class of singer, and an important blues voice by any standard, was Lucille Bogan."
