MIAO IN CHINA

Enregistrements de terrain de Laurent Jeanneau et Shi Tanding au Guizhou dans deux villages de l'ethnie Miao (Songlong et Paiya) en juin 2007. Le disque présente un instrument à deux cordes assez rare, le gupiaoqin qui est joué lors de soirées où les Miao chantent et boivent. Le cd propose également des chants de femmes traditionnels et des airs à l'orgue à bouche de différentes tailles. (ASDS).
"The MIAOs are a very famous and important ethnic group in China, and the Chinese tourism industry is already playing a role in Miao cultural life, lots of tourist have already seen the famous mouth organs orchestras on the spot or on tv, they have already been used for cultural/political reasons. Here you can feel the roots of Miao culture, even if I can not claim any diversity, these recordings only come from 2 villages. The first village Songlong is home of a rare home made 2 strings bowed instrument, the gupiaoqin, in solo or duo, the instrument is bowed with a bamboo rubbed with resin, to be played with singing and drinking. Songlong is also home of authentic old women's singing style. The tracks 13 to16 have been recorded in the second village Paiya, a Miao mouth organs maker had gathered 2 old friends to play together, 3 mouthorgans of various sizes can be heard on tracks 13 to 16. Those Miao people call themselves GALAO, which means bird in their language." (notes de la pochette)
