Robbie BASHO
- Ref. XB176O
- BO'WEAVIL RECORDINGS, 2008. Enregistrement 1980.
Unreleased live album from Robbie Basho, recorded in Germany, 1980. The guitarist's performance is predictably spectacular, romping through a variety of well-known songs from his repertoire including some that were never officially recorded. The recording quality is a little musty, but there's been a good deal of time and effort put into restoring the music, and certainly, Basho's intense, muscular picking style is loud and clear throughout. As a document of Basho's skill, this show serves as a fine example not only of his virtuosity, but of the kind of guitar player he was - not some Fahey acolyte or Takoma sideman, but a singular voice in his own right. Speaking of voices, Basho was known to sing in addition to playing guitar, and this album documents a few examples of that too. A few bars into the first track and you'll be instantly lost in Basho's captivating technique, with all concerns over recording fidelity far from your mind.(Article paru sur Boomkat)
