DR. SAMUEL J. HOFFMAN AND THE THEREMIN
Dr. Samuel J. HOFFMAN
- Ref. XH648O
- Produit en 1999. Enregistrement 1947-1950.
"This is the long-awaited re-release in digital format of three landmark albums featuring the theremin, the only musical instrument played by moving the hands in the air over an electronic field. Invented in 1920 by the russian scientist Leon Theremin, it was developed and marketed in the US by RCA Victor. The artist who plays the theremin is Dr. Samuel J. Hoffman (1904-1967), a foot specialist by day, and musical entertainer by night. It was Hoffman's brilliant technique that was heard in numerous film scores; to moviegoers'ears, the eerie sound of Hoffman's theremin became a leitmotif for mental imbalance in the 40's (in films such as "Spellbound" nad "The Lost Week-End"), and grew to be a hallmark of alien space creatures and ghoulish acts in '50s films such as "The Day The Earth Stood
