Music by The Ex, lyrics by Jan Mulder. "Symfonie Voor Machines" is based on the piece "Zavod" (The Iron Foundry) by Alexander Mossolov (1900-1973), a suite from the ballet "Stal" (Steel) opus 19, 1926, and adapted by The Ex for The Ex Orkest. In 1926-1929 Mossolov composed the ballet "Stal", intending to glorify the time of industrialization. He wanted to express the feeling of the new industrial, urbanized machine-age in a barbaric style. "THe Iron Foundry" is a short piece from this ballet and it made Mossolov the first international celebrity among the young Russian composers in the time after the first World War.
