FUTURE BASS
ANTHOLOGIES GENERALES
- Ref. X 325W
- SOUL JAZZ RECORDS, 2010.
Soul Jazz frame the UKs morphing rhizome of dubstep and technoid dancefloor operators under the 'Future Bass' tag for a heavyweight 3x12" comp, featuring established producers such as Mala, Four Tet, Untold, and Coki, alongside relative youngers like Randomer, Distal and Harry Craze. It's probably unfair, and incorrect, to lump all these artists under the catch-all Dubstep label nowadays so Future Bass fits the bill nicely, creating an even playing field where the Gamelan techno of Four Tet's 'Nothing To See' can be aligned with the scrunched electroid halfstep of Ginz's purple stinger 'Boss' and the anti-G 'step of Black Chow (aka Kevin Martin and Hitomi from King Midas Sound). Our personal highlights would have to be the woozy compression of Black Chow's 'Air', the tropical swing of Distal's 'Grape Donut', and Harry Craze's awesome Jungle twyster 'Gone', but thats not to discount certified 'floor movers like Untold's techy-houser 'Fly Girls', the rampant undulation of Ramadanman's 'Bass Drums' or the fierce soca-tek shock of LD's 'Mastermind'.
