"New, exciting names at the more ambient end of electronica have been few and far between over the last couple of years. So welcome in the new year with the vibrant sounds of The Collectors, who arrive on the scene to perform their first live show at The Big Chill Bar on Wednesday 19th January. Their debut single Maya II will be released the following Monday followed by a mini album 'Galapagos'. An organic electronic vibe is maybe the best way to describe their sound. The Collectors have sited their influences as Trojan Records, 80s indie guitar bands and Renaissance music, clearly they're on the zeitgeist in terms of a folksy eclecticism and plenty of guitars. Tom and Benet "met on the swings" aged seven, their paths crossed again at college (where they formed a manic guitar band) and later in London before wisely retreating to one of the most beautiful parts of England - rural Shropshire in 2002, when The Collectors was born. They've clearly paid their dues - Benet having co-written and played with Plaid (who have remixed Maya II for the EP), and Tom having released music."
