"It would be a mistake to consider the electric guitar to be an amplified version of the acoustic guitar. It is the result of the transformative power of electronic technology. Everything about it is different: the way it sounds, the way it acts, the way it is used, the way it is viewed. In both acoustic and electric guitars, the origin of sound is the vibration of a string, incited by the guitarist's finger. In the acoustic guitar, this vibration is transferred to the wood of the guitar body through the bridge. The hollow guitar body amplifies the vibration and transfers it to the air as a pressure wave. This fluctuation of air pressure is transferred to our inner ear fluids via our eardrums and the small bines in our ears. Thus the vibration is carried along from one medium to the next i
