Music for films and theatre. TEIJI Ito was born in Tokyo in 1935. Ito began composing formally in 1952 at the age of seventeen, when Maya Deren impulsively invited him to make the soundtrack for her film "The very eye of night". In 1959 he scored "Meshes of the afternoon", which Deren made in 1943. Deren's films were pioneering for the their time, and "Meshes..." is a landmark of American avant garde cinema. Ito continued to compose primarily for film, theater and dance, working with such notable artists as The Living Theater, Jerome Robbins, Andre Gregory, Jean Erdman, Estelle Parsons... He made soundtracks for experimental and documentary films...
