NEST OF MACHINES
EDISON WOODS

- HABIT OF CREATION RECORDS COMP, 2006.
"IN THE FAMILY OF: Antony & The Johnson's, Elysian Fields, Rachel's, Yann Tierson, Julee Cruise. Haunting and romantic, Edison Woods is a band of villains with a soft spot for sad songs. They tell their tales with strings and piano, baritone sax, guitars, drums, and heaven's vocal harmonies. Theirs is music of a vague and fevered futureland, one of glowing birdcages and other lost items. Described as "a beautiful cross between the sounds of Elysian Fields and sentiments of David Lynch", Edison Woods' first two albums stand as testament to the exquisite delicacy and mysterious power of their unique brand of music. Julia Frodahl's rich yet childlike voice captures both wonder and lost innocence, and her ensemble -- including members of Antony & The Johnsons, Elysian Fields, and The Vanity Set -- expands the standard rock arrangements to include accordion, violin, and baritone sax.
