TAM

  • Ref. XT068V
  • ECSTATIC PEACE!, 2006.

"is a lady from Montreal, the latest act to be signed to Thurston Moore's rather lovely Ecstatic Peace label. One thing I should probably mention too is that Tam has a little trouble with her singing... well she can't sing in the traditional sense, not that this stops her mind you. Like Jandek she goes for more of an 'outsider' sound, hollering and wailing over quite addictive slashy backing tracks. Head over to 'Alien Nation' for an analogue synth workout replete with chunky guitars and yep Tam's rather odd vocal contributions. It's strange but after a few tracks you actually forget the initial strangeness of Tam's voice and it becomes just another part of the music. One for fans of mid 90s alternative indie and of course Sonic Youth (to a point) this is an unusual but strangely pleasing disc and another reason why Ecstatic Peace is such an intriguing label at the moment." www.boomkat.com
