THE SECOND COMING
NAPOLEON XIV
- Ref. XN061A
- RHINO, 2004. Enregistrement 1965-1995.
"About Napoleon XIV: US songwriter, performer and recording engineer Jerry Samuels adopted the moniker Napoleon XIV and burst into the US/UK Top 10 in Summer 1966 with this bizarre song. An attempted follow-up, "I'm In Love With My Little Red Tricycle" failed to catch. A minor scandal ensued when it became known that Napoleon XIV used another performer, Richard Stern, to make his personal appearances. To cash in on first hit, Napoleon XIV quickly recorded an album with lyrics by comedy guru Jim Lehrer, with charming titles such as "Photogenic, Schizophrenic You", "The Nuts In My Family Tree" and "Bats In My Belfry", but it failed to make an impact. Napoleon XIV had a brief revival in 1990 when the deliberately controversial Jello Biafra (formerly of the Dead Kennedys)".
